How to block Tumblr on iPhone
Semo is an iPhone app that blocks distracting apps by asking an AI question that quotes your own reason back to you. This page is only about Tumblr.
How do you block Tumblr on an iPhone?
It depends on what you mean by a block. Screen Time can limit Tumblr, and you can ignore that limit if you know the passcode or never set one. Semo asks an AI question that quotes your own reason, and you can dismiss it. The steps on this page are Apple's. Semo is not on the App Store yet. Price shown in the app.
Block Tumblr with iPhone Screen Time
Tumblr's dashboard is the time sink, and posting to your own blog is the same app. A limit stops both. On iOS 26, select Tumblr inside Social rather than the whole category. On iOS 27 it shares Social Media. tumblr.com in Safari is outside an iOS 26 App Limit on the icon.
iOS 26
- Add a Tumblr-only App Limit Settings, Screen Time, App and Website Activity on, then App Limits, Add Limit, Social, Tumblr. Leave other social apps off that row.
- The dashboard and your blog share the time If you still post, do it before the limit or pick Customize Days. iOS will not keep the compose screen open after the time is up.
- Dashboard notifications reopen the loop Settings, Notifications, Tumblr. Turn off the alerts for posts you did not ask to see. Remove Tumblr from Always Allowed.
iOS 27
- Tumblr uses the Social Media allowance Time Allowances group it with other social apps. Set that category, and move Tumblr under Manage Categories if the grouping is wrong.
- The website is included only when it is linked iOS 27 may count a linked tumblr.com. A dashboard open in Safari that is not linked is still the browser. Check the category detail.
Apple's steps: App Limits on iOS 26 and Time Allowances on iOS 27. A limit you set for yourself can be ignored if you know the Screen Time passcode, or if you never set one.
What Tumblr's own limits do, and why they fail
Tumblr's own tools are who you follow, filters, and notifications. We could not find a daily timer in its public help on 31 October 2026 that closes the dashboard. The dashboard loads another post when you reach the bottom. Filtering a tag removes that tag. It does not end the session. The app and the website can both be installed habits. Limiting only the icon leaves the website on iOS 26.
An example reason
Written for this page. Not a quote from a user.
I open Tumblr to check one blog, and the dashboard is why I keep going.
How Semo helps with Tumblr
Store that reason. Semo blocks Tumblr by asking an AI question that quotes it. The question will not distinguish your blog from the dashboard, because Semo does not see the screen inside the app. No results are published.
Questions
Can I block the Tumblr dashboard and still post?
Not as two Screen Time entries. Post first, or accept that the limit closes the whole app.
Does a tag filter count as a block?
It hides posts with that tag. The dashboard remains, and so does the app.
Is tumblr.com covered?
On iOS 26, no. See the Safari guide. On iOS 27, check whether the site is linked to the Tumblr allowance.
