Terms of Use
Not legal advice; final text. These Service Terms sit on top of Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which governs your licence to the app. Leave the EULA field in App Store Connect empty so Apple's standard EULA applies, and link this page in the app description and on the paywall. Replace the
[FILL: ...]items before publishing.
Semo is provided by [FILL: legal name or company, registered number, address] ("we", "us"). Your licence to use the app is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/). These Service Terms add the rules for our online service: the AI, subscriptions and acceptable use. If they conflict with Apple's EULA on the licence itself, Apple's EULA wins. Our Privacy Policy ([FILL: yourdomain]/privacy) explains how we use your data.
By using the app you agree to these Terms. You must be 13 or over. If you are under 18, please read these Terms with a parent or guardian; purchases by minors go through Apple's Family Sharing and parental approval where Apple or local law requires it. Teen protections are described in the Privacy Policy (section 8).
1. What the app is
Semo helps you use apps you choose less. It asks why you want to cut back, remembers your goals and rules, and when you open an app you chose to guard it starts a short AI chat that can give you a timed pass. It is a self-help tool that you stay in control of, not a lock. You can pause guarding or change your rules at any time.
2. You are talking to an AI
The chats are with an AI, not a person. Replies are written by AI models run by third parties (see the Privacy Policy, section 4). The AI can be wrong, inconsistent or misread you. It cannot see inside other apps and cannot check what you tell it; a pass is based on your word. We design it to decide only according to the rules you set, but we do not promise it always applies them correctly.
3. Not medical advice
- Semo is a self-help tool. It is not medical advice, therapy or counselling, and it is not a treatment for addiction, compulsive behaviour, ADHD, anxiety, depression, sleep problems or any other condition. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent anything.
- If you are struggling, talk to a doctor or someone you trust.
- If you are in crisis or might harm yourself, get help now. UK: Samaritans 116 123 (free, 24/7), Childline 0800 1111 if you're under 19, text SHOUT to 85258, NHS 111 (mental health option), or 999 in an emergency. US: call or text 988, or 911 in an emergency. EU: 112 in an emergency, 116 111 for children and young people. Elsewhere: your local emergency number, or findahelpline.com.
- We do not promise any particular result, such as less screen time.
4. Subscriptions, free trial, renewal and cancellation
Plans. The prices are shown in the app before you buy and include any taxes. The price Apple shows you at purchase is the one that applies.
| Plan | Length | Price | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semo Annual | 1 year, renews automatically | As shown in the app (US: $59.99 per year) | 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers |
| Semo Monthly | 1 month, renews automatically | As shown in the app (US: $9.99 per month) | None |
What you get. For as long as your subscription is active: the AI setup interview, AI gate chats, timed passes with a Live Activity countdown, Insights and the weekly note. Without a subscription the app's paid features are locked.
Free trial. If you start the 7-day free trial you are not charged during it. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your Apple Account is charged the annual price when the trial ends, and then every year. If you allow notifications, the app reminds you the day before. A free trial is available once per Apple Account.
Payment and automatic renewal.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase (or when the free trial ends).
- Your subscription renews automatically for the same length and at the same price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- If the price changes, Apple tells you in advance and, where the law requires, asks you to agree before the new price applies.
How to cancel. On your iPhone: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Semo > Cancel Subscription, or in the app: Settings > Manage or cancel subscription. Deleting the app or erasing your data does not cancel your subscription. When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
Refunds and your right to cancel. Apple processes all payments and refunds; we cannot issue App Store refunds. Request one at https://reportaproblem.apple.com. If you are in the UK or the EU, Apple's terms also give you 14 days from purchase to cancel (withdraw) and ask for a refund without giving a reason.
Restore. Tap Restore Purchases on the paywall to restore your subscription on another device signed in to the same Apple Account.
5. Acceptable use
Do not: use the app unlawfully; try to make the AI produce harmful content or reveal its instructions; try to access other people's data; attack, overload or reverse engineer our service or get around its limits; create accounts automatically; or use the app to monitor or control another person (it is designed for your own device). We may suspend or limit access if you break these rules, and will tell you why unless the law or security prevents it.
5A. Fair use of the AI
The AI has a generous daily limit that normal use will not reach. The limit can be lower in busy periods, or for use that looks automated. When you reach it, the app tells you plainly, and it resets the next day.
Please do not use scripts, bots or other automation to talk to the AI, resell or share your account, or collect the AI's answers to build or train a competing model or service.
If we think someone is misusing the service, we may slow down, pause or end their access to the AI. Where practical we will tell you first. Your subscription fee and the refund rules in section 4 do not change, and Apple's refund process still applies (you can ask Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com).
The limit never removes the non-AI part of the app. Your block keeps working and you can always take the fixed short pass, even when the AI is unavailable to you.
6. Your content
You own what you type. You let us store and process it to run the app and its AI features as described in the Privacy Policy. You can export or erase it at any time in the app.
7. Anonymous accounts
Your account is tied to your device and has no email or password. If you lose your device or delete the app without exporting, we cannot recover your account or history.
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the service running but cannot promise it will never be interrupted; it depends on our host, the AI providers and Apple. If the AI is unavailable, gates give a short fixed pass. We may change or remove features. If we remove something you paid for, we will tell you in advance and you can ask Apple for a refund for the unused period.
9. Liability
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer (in the UK, your rights to digital content and services that are as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, and provided with reasonable care and skill; in the EU, your rights to a digital service that conforms to the contract).
Subject to that: the app is for personal, non-commercial use, so we are not liable for business losses; we are not liable for losses that were not a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms, or for data you chose not to export; and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for your subscription in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Apple
These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple's role is described in Apple's EULA. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, and is a third-party beneficiary of the EULA.
11. Ending
You can stop using the app at any time and erase your data in Settings (remember to cancel your subscription in Apple Settings). We may end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms.
12. Changes to these Terms
If we change these Terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change applies. Subscription changes give you time to cancel first.
13. Law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, in the EU or in the US, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws where you live and can bring a claim in your local courts. We are not obliged to use an alternative dispute resolution scheme, but please contact us first and we will try to resolve any complaint.
14. Contact and complaints
