How to block Snapchat on iPhone
Semo is an iPhone app that blocks distracting apps by asking an AI question that quotes your own reason back to you. This page is only about Snapchat.
How do you block Snapchat on an iPhone?
It depends on what you mean by a block. Screen Time can limit Snapchat, and you can ignore that limit if you know the passcode or never set one. Semo asks an AI question that quotes your own reason, and you can dismiss it. The steps on this page are Apple's. Semo is not on the App Store yet. Price shown in the app.
Block Snapchat with iPhone Screen Time
Snapchat is a social app, and a limit on it also covers chats and streaks, not only Stories. People often put it in Always Allowed so friends can reach them, which quietly disables the limit. On iOS 26, pick the Snapchat icon inside Social. On iOS 27, it shares the Social Media allowance.
iOS 26
- Limit Snapchat without limiting every messenger Settings, Screen Time, App Limits, Add Limit. Open Social and tick Snapchat only, so WhatsApp or Messages are not on the same timer.
- Take Snapchat out of Always Allowed If Snapchat was added to Always Allowed so you would not miss a snap, the App Limit will not run. Remove it, or accept that Stories stay available too.
- Mute snap notifications or the limit starts too late A banner that says someone snapped you is what gets the app opened. In Settings, Notifications, Snapchat, turn off the alerts you do not want. The App Limit does nothing until the app is actually used.
iOS 27
- Snapchat draws from Social Media Under Time Allowances, Social Media is the category to set. Snapchat does not have a private allowance unless you recategorise it in Manage Categories.
- Streaks are not a Screen Time category iOS does not know what a streak is. The allowance ends app use. It does not reply to a streak for you, and it does not keep Stories open while blocking the streak reminder.
Apple's steps: App Limits on iOS 26 and Time Allowances on iOS 27. A limit you set for yourself can be ignored if you know the Screen Time passcode, or if you never set one.
What Snapchat's own limits do, and why they fail
Snapchat does not ship a daily timer that closes the app. The streak is a reason to open it every day, and the app is built around that open. Notification controls and who can contact you change the social pressure. They are not a clock. Stories, Chat and Spotlight are one app, so you cannot ask iOS for "Spotlight off, chats on". A snap from a friend and a half hour of Spotlight look the same to Screen Time.
An example reason
Written for this page. Not a quote from a user.
I open Snapchat to keep a streak, and I stay for Spotlight after the snap is sent.
How Semo helps with Snapchat
You can store that exact reason. A rule that matches it is "send the snap I opened it for, then leave". Semo blocks Snapchat by asking an AI question that quotes the reason. It does not know whether the streak was already answered. The question is the block. We are not claiming people send the snap and leave. Nothing like that has been published.
Questions
If I limit Snapchat, will I miss messages?
Yes, once the limit is reached, unless Snapchat is in Always Allowed. Always Allowed also leaves Stories and Spotlight open. There is no third setting that allows one chat and blocks the rest.
Can I block Snapchat at night but not the streak in the afternoon?
On iOS 26, Downtime is a schedule for most apps, and Customize Days changes an App Limit by weekday. You still cannot give the streak a private window inside the app. On iOS 27, Screen Time Schedule can change which categories are available in a time window. Snapchat follows its category.
Does Snapchat have its own screen-time passcode?
Not a daily lock that we could confirm in Snapchat's public help as of 31 October 2026. If a new build adds one, read whether you can dismiss it with a code you set yourself. That is the usual shape of an in-app timer.
