How to block Safari on iPhone

Semo is an iPhone app that blocks distracting apps by asking an AI question that quotes your own reason back to you. This page is only about Safari.

How do you block Safari on an iPhone?

It depends on what you mean by a block. Screen Time can limit Safari, and you can ignore that limit if you know the passcode or never set one. Semo asks an AI question that quotes your own reason, and you can dismiss it. The steps on this page are Apple's. Semo is not on the App Store yet. Price shown in the app.

Block Safari with iPhone Screen Time

Safari is the way around almost every other limit on this site. On iOS 26, an App Limit on TikTok, YouTube, Reddit or Instagram does not cover that service's website. Limiting Safari itself is blunt: every site stops, including ones you need. iOS does not offer a simple "block this one website and leave Safari" switch. The strict website control is Allowed Websites, which is a whitelist. Content restrictions for adult material are a different feature and do not take a list of apps.

iOS 26

  1. See whether Safari is already exempt Settings, Screen Time, Always Allowed. Safari is often on that list. While it is, no App Limit and no Downtime will stop it. Remove it only if you are willing to lose every site.
  2. Limit the Safari app, understanding the cost App Limits, Add Limit, and find Safari in its category. The time you set applies to banking, mail, maps links and the site you were trying to avoid. There is no per-site timer on this screen.
  3. Use Allowed Websites only if a whitelist is really what you want Content and Privacy Restrictions, Content Restrictions, Web Content, Allowed Websites. This leaves only the sites you name. It is easy to lock yourself out of something you needed. It is not a blocklist of TikTok.

iOS 27

  1. Time Allowances may already include a linked site On iOS 27, an app can declare a website that counts toward its allowance. Check Manage Categories before you limit all of Safari. A linked YouTube site is not the same as limiting the browser.
  2. Safari itself is still the general door Sites that are not linked, and any site you type in, still open in Safari. A Screen Time Schedule can hide categories at some hours. It does not grow a per-site blocklist.

Apple's steps: App Limits on iOS 26 and Time Allowances on iOS 27. A limit you set for yourself can be ignored if you know the Screen Time passcode, or if you never set one.

What Safari's own limits do, and why they fail

Safari has no daily time limit of its own. Reading List, a content blocker extension, and private browsing change tracking or clutter. They do not stop you typing a site. Private browsing does not hide the visit from Screen Time's App and Website Activity. Tab groups do not expire. If Safari is in Always Allowed, the other guides on this site fail as soon as you open the browser.

An example reason

Written for this page. Not a quote from a user.

I tell myself Safari is for one thing I need, and I type the address of the app I just limited.

How Semo helps with Safari

You can store that reason. Semo blocks Safari, if you chose it, by asking an AI question that quotes the reason. It cannot block one domain inside Safari, and it should not be the tool you pick if you need the browser for work every few minutes. A limit you cannot change yourself is still Apple's Screen Time with a passcode held by someone else, or Allowed Websites. We have no published results.

Questions

How do I block only TikTok in Safari?

iOS 26 does not have a blocklist of single sites in Screen Time. Allowed Websites is a whitelist. On iOS 27, check whether TikTok's own allowance already includes the linked site. Anything else is still the whole browser.

Does a content blocker extension limit time?

No. Extensions can hide elements or ads. They do not end a session at a clock time.

I limited YouTube and I can still watch in Safari. Is that expected?

On iOS 26, yes. The website is Safari. Either limit Safari, use Allowed Websites, or check on iOS 27 whether the YouTube site is linked to the allowance.
